The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has commended journalists covering the 2025 hajj for maintaining high ethical standards and professionalism.
On May 20, Abdullahi Usman, chairman of NAHCON, inaugurated the national media team for the 2025 hajj exercise.
Usman asked journalists covering the pilgrimage to uphold the ethics of their profession and prioritise objectivity.
He said the role of the media in shaping public understanding of the hajj cannot be overemphasised, adding that their reports must reflect truth and fairness.

Speaking on Thursday at the plains of Arafah, Fatima Usara, NAHCON’s spokesperson, asked journalists to continue maintaining ethical standards throughout the pilgrimage.
Usara added that the commission’s departments and units remain open to journalists for accurate information, clarification, guidance, and constructive engagement.
“The commission is committed to ensuring that Nigerian pilgrims get full value for the considerable resources they invest in this spiritual journey,” she said.

“We do not claim perfection, but there is no deliberate intention whatsoever to inconvenience pilgrims.
“Allah Himself enjoins patience and perseverance during Hajj, and we echo that call.
“NAHCON believes that no amount expended in support of the media is too much, given their crucial role in the success of public institutions and parastatals.
“However, financial constraints and other compelling logistical issues have limited our ability to fully reward the diligence and commitment of journalists who serve God, the nation, and pilgrims well.”

Usara said NAHCON would continue to carry the media along in its activities, especially in public education and enlightenment efforts targeted at Nigerians and the Muslim Ummah.
She said a post-Arafah stakeholders’ meeting would be held after the pilgrims’ stay at the sacred sites in Mina, Arafah, and Muzdalifah.
“Thereafter, the final phase of the pilgrimage — the return journey — will commence,” Usara said.
