The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has inaugurated the national media team for the 2025 hajj pilgrimage.
Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday at the inauguration, Abdullahi Usman, chairman of NAHCON, asked journalists covering the pilgrimage to uphold ethics of their profession and prioritise objectivity.
Usman said the role of the media in shaping public understanding of the hajj cannot be overemphasised, adding that their reports must reflect truth and fairness.
“You tell the story of hajj to the world and help people see what is happening,” the NAHCON chairman said.

“We all know that the media is a very powerful tool — it can guide or manipulate the public. What you write, what you show, or what you say will have a great impact on the many people your story will reach.”
He advised members of the media team to work with a sense of justice and the fear of God, noting that their responsibility goes beyond mere coverage.
“So, please do your work with fairness and justice — and above all, with the fear of Allah. Your job can help reveal the truth and also help the pilgrims stay informed,” he said.

Usman commended the media contributions in the past operations, noting that the commission recognises and values the efforts.
“As of this morning, 12 states have completed the airlift of their pilgrims to Saudi Arabia,” the chairman said.
“We have so far successfully airlifted 30,071 Nigerian pilgrims under the government quota. You will get more updates as the journey progresses.”
Usman expressed hope that the orientation would strengthen the media’s understanding of NAHCON’s work and promote a sense of unity among the team.
