Namibian diplomat’s wife arraigned for ‘murdering’ two of her children

The wife of a Namibian diplomat in Ethiopia has been charged to court for allegedly killing two of her children.

Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, Namibia deputy prime minister and minister of international relations and cooperation, in a statement, confirmed the killing of the two children, but did not name the family involved.

A third child was said to have been rescued and taken to a hospital.

“The ministry of International Relations And Cooperation regrets to inform the nation of the sad and unfortunate incident in which the spouse of a diplomat from Embassy/Permanent Mission of the Republic of Namibia in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia is reported to have murdered her two children and attempted to kill the third child,” the statement reads.

“The third child was rescued and is now hospitalised.

“The ministry extends its condolences to the grieving family and asks the nation to respect their privacy as they absorb the sad and shocking news.”

Meanwhile, NBC news, in a series of tweets, noted that the woman was charged to an Ethiopian court on Monday, but her case was postponed till a later date.

NBC news quoted Emilia Mkusa, Namibia’s ambassador to Ethiopia, as saying that the woman was remanded in police custody.

“The wife of Namibia’s Trade Counsellor in Addis Ababa, who is accused of killing her two children, has appeared in an Ethiopian court and her case was postponed to a later date,” the post reads.

“According to Namibia’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, Emilia Mkusa, the suspect was discharged from hospital and is currently held in Addis Ababa police cells.

“The suspect whose name cannot be revealed, allegedly suffocated the two children, while the third child who survived was treated and discharged from a hospital this morning. Mkusa confirmed that the Government is currently facilitating the repatriation of the two bodies.”
