Aliyu Bello, chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa state, has been suspended by his ward leadership for alleged anti-party conduct.

Ibrahim Ilyasu, chairman of the APC Gayam ward in Lafia LGA, announced the suspension during a press briefing on Tuesday.

Ilyasu said the decision was unanimous among party officials in Gayam ward and was based on a breach of article 21 of the APC constitution.

“In line with the powers vested in us as ward executives under Article 21 (D) (i)-(iii) of the APC constitution, and after wide consultation with stakeholders, we have resolved to suspend Hon. Aliyu Bello from the APC with immediate effect,” the notice of suspension reads.

He accused Bello of openly supporting and campaigning for a candidate from another political party.

“We have credible evidence that you promoted and campaigned for a member of another party, violating Article 21 (0), (ii), and (vii), which prohibit acts that bring the party into hatred, contempt, ridicule, or disrepute,” the statement noted.

The suspension takes immediate effect, with Bello urged to stop presenting himself as a member of the APC from Gayam ward.

“Your actions have embarrassed the party, undermined our collective efforts, and breached party loyalty and discipline. We urge you to desist from parading yourself as a party member or official pending the conclusion of this process,” Ilyasu added.

Earlier in the week, Otaru Douglas, APC publicity secretary in Nasarawa, alleged a planned and sponsored attempt to suspend Bello by one of the state’s governorship aspirants.
