The Nasarawa state police command says it has arrested 17 suspected political thugs for various offences in the recently concluded election in the state.

Ramhan Nansel, police spokesperson in the state, said on Sunday that the suspects were arrested with arms and ammunition.

Nansel said some of the suspects were brought in from Imo and the federal capital territory (FCT) to disrupt the gubernatorial election in the state.

He said despite the warning from the commissioner of police in the state against importing thugs to interrupt the electoral process, some politicians still brought criminal elements through its borders.
