Nasir Idris, governor of Kebbi state, has appointed five People With Disabilities (PWDs) as his special assistants.

Yahaya Sarki, the special adviser to the governor on media and publicity, confirmed this in a statement issued on Thursday to NAN in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital.

He said the letters of their appointments were signed by Yakubu Bala-Tafida, the secretary to the state government.

“In order to ensure justice, equity and fairness, the five appointees were drawn from the four emirates of the state, namely Gwandu, Argungu, Yauri and Zuru,” NAN quoted him as saying.

Sarki added that the governor had promised to appoint PWDs during a BBC Hausa interactive programme called ‘A Fada A Cika’.

Sarki said during the programme on January 1, 2024, PWDs complained to the governor that they were not carried along in governance and he promised to appoint five of them.

In a related development, a bill for the establishment of a commission for PWDs in the state has been sent to the state house of assembly for approval.
