The national assembly has approved N242 billion for the conduct of the 2019 elections.

The two chambers of the national assembly passed the budget — as sent by President Muhammadu Buhari — during plenary on Tuesday.

A total of N189 billion was allocated to the Independent and National Electoral Commission (INEC) while N53 billion was for the security agencies.

Buhari had sent the N242 billion virement request for the election before the lawmakers went on recess in July.

In the budget, the office of the national security adviser (ONSA) got N9.4 billion while the Department of State Services (DSS) got N10.2 billion.

A further breakdown shows that the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) got N3.57 billion, Nigeria Police Force got N27.3 billion while N2.6 billion went to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).

Last week, the senate had only approved funding for INEC, pushing approval for the security agencies to Tuesday.
