National Youth Congress honours Akanbi Hamzat for grassroots development
Akanbi Hamzat, vice-chairman of Ifako-Ijaiye LGA in Lagos, has been given an award of excellence by the National Youth Congress (NYC).
He was honoured at a lecture and award ceremony organised by the congress on Thursday in Abuja.
Hamzat is the chairmanship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Ifako-Ijaiye LGA in the forthcoming local council election in the state.
Speaking at the event, Blessing Akinlosotu, NYC president, noted that Hamzat was singled out for the honour out of hundreds of elected local government officials in the country due to his numerous grassroots development strides in Ifako-Ijaiye LGA and the south-west.
Blessing said the #Waka2Cure — a project sponsored by Hamzat which provides a free medical rehabilitation programme for people living with arthritis, stroke, cerebral palsy and has more than 1,000 beneficiaries — was a criterion for the award.
“Classic and international standard of medical solutions were provided with lots of positive testimonies after the treatment process of the medical outreach programme. This is the first of its kind in South-West Nigeria, hosted in Ifako-Ijaiye LGA and sponsored by this young man, Prince Usman,” he said.
Hamzat is also the secretary of the Association of Local Government Vice-Chairmen in South-West Nigeria.
The event was attended by dignitaries from across the country including Abdullahi Ganduje, governor of Kano state; James Faleke, a member of the house of representatives who represented Bola Tinubu, APC national chairman; and Chukwemeka Nwajuba, minister of state for education.
