NBS: Jigawa, Ondo, Lagos residents paid highest for petrol in June

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) says residents of Jigawa, Ondo, and Lagos paid the highest retail price of petrol in June.

The NBS spoke in its monthly ‘Petrol Price Watch’ for June 2025, released in Abuja on Thursday.

According to the report, the average retail price of a litre of petrol increased to N1,037.66 in June 2025 — up from N750.17 in June 2024.

The figure represents a 38.32 percent increase compared to the price recorded in June last year.

“Comparing the average price value with the previous month of May, the average retail price increased by 0.96 percent from N1,027.76,” the bureau said.

On state profile analysis, the report said Jigawa paid the highest average retail price of N1,107.52, followed by Ondo and Lagos at N1,104.8 and N1,100.29, respectively.

“Conversely, Yobe, Kogi, and Imo paid the lowest average retail price at N950.60, N986.67, and N987.86, respectively,’’ NBS said.

Analysis by zones showed that the north-west recorded the highest average retail price in June 2025 at N1,062.84, while the north-east zone recorded the lowest price of N1,020.15 per litre.

Earlier in July, Dangote refinery reduced its ex-depot price of petrol to N820 per litre — a week after it slashed the price to N840.

On July 23, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited reduced the pump price of petrol to N890 per litre in Abuja — one week after the national oil firm dropped the commodity’s price to NN895 and N865 in Lagos.
