NBS: Plateau, Kano, Abia paid highest for petrol in April 2021

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) says Plateau, Kano and Abia states paid highest for premium motor spirit (PMS), better known as petrol, in April 2021.

This is contained in the NBS report on ‘Premium Motor Spirit (Petrol) Price Watch (April 2021)’ released on Wednesday.

The Bureau said: “Average price paid by consumers for premium motor spirit (petrol) increased by 27.16% year-on-year and decreased month-on-month by 3.65% to N166.38 in April 2021 from N172.68 in March 2021.

“States with the highest average price of premium motor spirit (petrol) were Plateau (N178.14), Kano (N177.00) and Abia (N175.92).

“States with the lowest average price of premium motor spirit (petrol) were Borno (N152.30), Katsina (N156.60) and Gombe (N157.11).”

The report showed that average price of petrol across zones was highest in south-east (N170.98), south-south (N168.54), and north-central (N167.40); while north-east, south-west and north-west had the lowest average price of petrol with N159.01, N166.25, N166.65 respectively.

Similarly, NBS said: “Average price paid by consumers for Automotive Gas Oil (diesel) increased by 0.76% month-on-month and by 5.84% year-on-year to N237.19 in April 2021 from N235.41 in March 2021.

“States with the highest average price of diesel were Benue (N264.75), Borno (N255.43) and Ebonyi (N252.50).

“States with the lowest average price of diesel were Anambra (N211.92), Kogi (N215.00) and Jigawa (N217.93)”.

The bureau also reported that the average price for refilling a 5kg cylinder for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), also known as cooking gas, increased by 0.56 percent from N2,057.71 in March 2021 to N2,069.21 in April 2021.

However, the average price for refilling a 12.5kg cylinder cooking gas declined slightly by 0.96 percent from N4,359.23 in March 2021 to N4,317.55 in April 2021.

NBS further said that the average price per litre paid by consumers for kerosene increased by 0.38 percent from N361.29 in March 2021 to N362.68 in April 2021; while the average price per gallon of kerosene decreased by 0.87 percent from N1,236.86 in March 2021 to N1,226.08 in April 2021.
