The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) says the average retail price of a litre of petrol increased to N1,024.99 per litre in July, with the north-west zone recording the highest level.
In its report, tagged ‘Premium Motor Spirit (Petrol) Price Watch (July 2025),’ released on August 21, the NBS said the pump price rose by 33.02 percent from N770.54 recorded in the corresponding month last year.
“On the contrary, comparing the average price value with that of the previous month (i.e., June 2025), the average retail price decreased by 1.22% from N1,037.66,” the report reads.
The report’s state profile analysis showed that Jigawa state had the highest average retail price for petrol at N1107.52.

Lagos and Sokoto states came next, with N1,100.29 and N1,100, respectively.
“Conversely, Zamfara, Yobe, and Kogi States had the lowest average retail prices for Premium Motor Spirit (Petrol), at N884.63, N950.60, and N986.67 respectively,” the NBS said.
“Lastly, on the Zonal profile, the North West Zone had the highest average retail price of N1035.85, while the North East Zone had the lowest price of N1017.65.”

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, on August 15, reduced its petrol price across its retail outlets to N865 per litre in Lagos and N890 in Abuja.
On August 12, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery dropped its petrol price to N820 per litre — six days after increasing the price to N850.
