NBS: Taraba, Bauchi, Borno residents paid highest diesel prices in April

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) says Taraba, Bauchi, and Borno states paid the highest for automotive gas oil (AGO), commonly known as diesel, in April. 

In the latest NBS report, released on Tuesday, the bureau said the average retail price of diesel was N1,415.06 per litre in the month.

The NBS said the average retail price paid by consumers represented a 68.01 percent year-on-year increase — compared to the value (N842.25) recorded in April 2023.

“On a month-on-month basis, an increase of 5.51% was recorded from N1341.16 in the preceding month of March 2024 to an average of N1415.06 in April 2024,” the bureau said.

“Looking at the variations in the State prices, the top three States with the highest average price of the product in April 2024 include Taraba State (N1742.46), Bauchi State (N1669.63) and Borno (N1652.61).

“Furthermore, the top three lowest prices were recorded in the following State namely, Niger State (N1023.00), Kogi State (N1152.50) and Adamawa State (N1257.50).”

Across geopolitical zones, the report showed that the north-east recorded the highest average price of N1,553.80 while the north-central had the lowest price of N1,307.21.

On May 17, Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest person, said by June, the refining company would begin producing diesel and petrol.
