The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has postponed the launch of the consumer protection portal to September 19.

NCAA, in a post on its X account on Tuesday, said the portal would be launched by Festus Keyamo, the minister of aviation and aerospace development.

“The NCAA Consumer Protection Portal will be officially launched on September 19, 2024, by the honourable minister of aviation and aerospace development, Festus Keyamo,” the statement reads.

On July 20, the authority announced its plans to launch a consumer protection portal in August to address complaints within the aviation sector.

NCAA said the portal will allow passengers to log complaints, track airlines’ on-time performance, and access self-reported data on the resolution of cases, making airline performance data publicly accessible and transparent.

The regulator said the consumer portal will encourage transparency and accountability of airlines.

In preparation for the portal’s launch, the NCAA conducted a training programme for its officers on August 12.

The authority said the training was to equip airline personnel and regulatory officials with the necessary skills to address frequent passenger complaints, particularly those related to delayed or cancelled flights and other service failures.

Keyamo, on January 31, said the ministry would publish delayed or cancelled flights by domestic airlines.
