Chikwe Ihekweazu, director-general of the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC), says the country has mounted a robust response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ikehweazu stated this on Thursday during a media briefing at the presidential villa, Abuja.

The director-general noted that the prediction of doomsayers about the adverse effects of the pandemic on Nigeria was averted.

He said that although there are some casualties of the pandemic, the federal government has responded well.

“If you remember the prediction around this time last year of doomsday scenario for Nigeria and you look at the number this morning, yes, unfortunately, just 120,000 people have died from the virus,” he said.

“Over a hundred and fifty thousand cases, the problem survey we did indicated that there may be a few more than that.

“I think altogether, you will agree with me that with the leadership of Mr President, Nigeria has actually mounted a very robust response to this outbreak.”
