The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) is set to inaugurate a digitalisation training programme for 3,700 youths nationwide.

Obinna Ezeobi, the board’s general manager (GM), corporate communications, in a statement on Sunday, said the programme is under the banner of the NCDMB Digitalisation Initiative (NDI).

Ezeobi said the programme is designed to equip young Nigerians with the essential skills needed to thrive in the current and emerging waves of the industrial revolution.

The oil and gas industry has adopted advanced technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), big data, and robotics, according to Felix Ogbe, NCDMB executive secretary.

Ogbe said the technologies include cloud computing, cybersecurity, industrial internet of things (IoT), virtual reality, drones, and blockchain-based data exchange.

He said the shift towards digitalisation enables the players to improve productivity, cost optimisation, and low-carbon emission operations.

According to Ogbe, other benefits of adopting digitalisation include achieving remote operations, lean structure, smart and preventive facility management, and business processes automation.

Also, the GM reaffirmed the board’s commitment to its mandate of preparing and empowering the Nigerian oil and gas industry supply chain to be relevant in the emerging oil and gas landscape.

Abdulmalik Halilu, the board’s director of corporate service, emphasised NCDMB’s commitment to empowering Nigerians to take on critical roles within the oil and gas supply chain.

He explained that the NDI specifically targets youth within the 35-year age bracket, with resources strategically directed towards high-impact areas that enhance digital expertise, generate rapid value, and drive sustainable growth.

“According to details of the programme, the training will benefit youths across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory over the next three years,” he said.

“About 100 candidates will participate in the pilot phase, and beneficiaries will be selected through the NOGIC JQS portal, which is the Nigerian oil and gas industry’s repository for human and material capacities.”

Ezeobi said candidates will undergo a pre-selection test across six geopolitical zones on the following dates: September 30 in Umuahia, October 3 in Warri, October 6 in Lagos and Kaduna, and October 9 in Minna and Taraba.
