The FCT command of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has confirmed the death of an inmate of Kuje Custodial Centre.

Chuckwuedo Humphrey, spokesperson of the Abuja NCoS, said the inmate who died of “some chronic ailments” was admitted into prison in 2019.

He said the inmate was placed on special medical management by a combined team of medical personnel in the facility when he was diagnosed.

Humphrey said the inmate was occasionally referred to the University of Abuja Teaching hospital, Gwagwalada, when necessary.

“Unfortunately, when the inmate’s health deteriorated over the weekend, all efforts by the medical personnel to resuscitate him failed,” he said.

“A peaceful prayer session is being organised by the staffers and fellow inmates of the deceased for the repose of his soul.”

Humphrey said Ahmed Musa, the controller of the command, expressed his condolences to the family and friends of the late inmate.

He said the controller is committed to putting the health and general welfare of inmates and staffers as topmost priorities.

He, however, advised those on special medical attention to ensure strict adherence to expert instructions to overcome health challenges.
