Manchester United on Saturday continued their good start to the 2016/17 season of the English Premier League by beating Leicester City at Old Trafford.
Nigerian midfielder Wilfred Ndidi was largely subdued as his Leicester side were unable to stop the Red Devils.
Kelechi Iheanacho was benched while Ahmed Musa was again unlisted for the Foxes.
Manchester United could not convert any of the myriad of chances afforded them in the first forty-five minutes while Leicester were able to soak off the pressure.
Kasper Schmeichel became Leicester’s hero in the 52nd minute when he superbly saved Romelu Lukaku’s penalty after Danny Simpson had handled Anthony Martial’s cross in the 18-yard box.
Marcus Rashford who came on for Juan Mata latched on to an outswinging corner from Mkhitaryan and converted it for United’s first goal in the 70th minute.
After making a great run behind Leicester’s defence, Jesse Lingard hit a shot which struck Marouane Fellaini’s knee and sailed into the net to double United’s lead in the 82nd minute.
After the game, Fellaini said: “We created a lot of chances in the first half and it seemed like it was going to be one of those days but the team stuck to the task and thankfully we got the goal.”
United’s coach Jose Mourinho praised the effort of his players, saying “I like my team very much”.
Describing their performance, he said: “If I have to choose a word to describe my team, I would have to say solid.”
Craig Shakespeare’s men have not won at Old Trafford since 1998.
