The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says it has arrested a businessman for allegedly selling illicit drugs on Jiji.ng, an e-commerce platform.

Femi Babafemi, NDLEA director of media and advocacy, announced the development on Wednesday.

Babafemi said the suspect is the managing director of a pharmaceutical company which was registered on December 16, 2014.

He said the suspect came under NDLEA’s radar in October 2021 after advertising many pharmaceutical products on Jiji.ng.

According to the NDLEA spokesperson, the suspect is a graduate of business administration from the University of Abuja (UniAbuja).

“The products advertised were Tramadol, Ketamine Hydrochloride injection, Hypnox flunitrazepam tablets among others on the Jiji.ng online marketplace,” Babafemi said.

“Between October 26, 2021 and August 8, 2022, the team of anti-narcotic officers assigned to investigate the suspect’s drug business activities carried out a successful operation.

“The NDLEA operatives were able to establish the suspect was selling Tramadol 225mg and other illicit/controlled drugs through the e-commerce platform.”

Babafemi said the suspect was arrested on August 8 in Jabi, Abuja where he had gone to make some deliveries.

Buba Marwa, chairman of NDLEA, was quoted as saying the arrest would serve as a warning to those who engage in the marketing and selling of illicit drugs on the internet.
