The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says its operatives have arrested three suspects and recovered 195.300kg of illicit drugs worth N2.6 billion in Jigawa state.

Speaking on Monday during a press briefing in Dutse, the capital of Jigawa, Musa Maina, NDLEA commander in Jigawa, said operatives also recovered a Toyota Sienna and an 18-seater bus used by the suspects to transport the drugs.

Maina said the suspects, aged between 29 and 41, were arrested in Gumel and Ungoggo LGAs of Jigawa and Kano states, following an intelligence report.

He said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects used the Dolen Kwana, Birniwa, and Maigatari LGAs of Jigawa as their distribution points.

He added that the recovered drugs were tramadol tablets and pregabalin capsules.

“Those arrested are suspected to be members of a cartel that distributes illicit drugs to Kano, Jigawa, Bauchi, and neighboring Niger Republic,” Maina said.

“Investigation into the case is still ongoing.”
