Geregu plant
The Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) says it has restored an additional 450 megawatts (MW) of generation capacity to the national grid following the completion of scheduled maintenance on the Geregu national integration power project (NIPP) plant.
In a statement on Monday by Emmanuel Ojor, NDPHC’s spokesperson, the company said the four-week extended minor inspection was carried out by Siemens Energy.
According to the company, the maintenance was executed to enhance the facility’s operational reliability, performance and efficiency, thereby extending the plant’s equivalent operating hours (EOH) and operational life span.
Commenting on the development, Jennifer Adighije, NDPHC’s chief executive officer, said that in the past one year, the company has recovered six previously dormant gas turbines across the company’s fleet of gas turbines.

“These include GT4 at the Calabar NIPP, GT1 at Omotosho II, GT1 and GT2 at Benin NIPP, GT4 at Sapele NIPP, and currently GT3 and GT4 at Alaoji NIPP on standby for pre-commissioning after gas supply remedial works,” Adighije said.
She said the restored units will collectively add a cumulative 875MW to NDPHC’s mechanically available generation capacity, significantly strengthening the nation’s overall power supply.
Adighije also announced the commencement of restoration works on the 225MW Gbarain NIPP plant, which has been out of operation since 2020.

She described the initiative as a significant step toward unlocking dormant national power capacity, with plans to commercialise the plant’s output to supply key commercial and industrial clusters across the Niger Delta region.
Adighije further emphasised NDPHC’s commitment to “restoring dormant capacity, stabilising operations, and supporting Nigeria’s goal of a more reliable and sustainable power supply value chain”.
NDPHC RECORDS OPERATIONAL/FINANCIAL MILESTONES
Despite persistent challenges across the sector, NDPHC said it has achieved notable operational and financial progress.

The company listed the milestones to include recovery of 110 containers with critical turbine parts and heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) components abandoned at Onne Port for over nine years, as well as commencement of the Light Up Nigeria – Agbara industrial cluster project to connect the Agbara Industrial Estate to the grid.
NDPHC said it also implemented a 10MW embedded solar project for an industrial area in Kano, completed key transmission and distribution projects in Borno and Delta states, and finalised the Afam–Ikot Ekpene 330kV double circuit transmission line.
Other success stories, NDPHC said, included recovery of over $10 million in legacy debts from bilateral customers and securing $15 million in insurance claims for the Alaoji plant fire incident.
Furthermore, NDPHC reported significant progress in its engagements with the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) regarding the recovery of investments in Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) transmission expansion projects.

The company also said it resolved long-standing commercial disputes with Accugas, resulting in amendments to the gas supply agreement that reduced the government’s financial exposure.
