NEMA, emergency corps collaborate to address flooding in Gombe

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has partnered with Grassroot Emergency Volunteer Corps (GEVC) to address flooding in Gombe.

In a statement issued by the organisation, NEMA said it held an interactive meeting to strengthen its relationship with the emergency corps.

The organisations discussed prevention measures to prevent flooding and disease outbreaks in local communities in the state.

“The meeting was chaired by the head of operations, Ummuna Ahmed. It was an interactive forum aimed at strengthening the already existing relationship between NEMA and GEVC,” the statement reads.

“Among the issues discussed were strategies on how to avoid flood, malaria and cholera disasters in communities of Gombe local government areas (LGAs).”

NEMA, FRSC PARTNERS TO ADDRESS FLOODING IN SOKOTO

The NEMA operations office in Sokoto also met with the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in the state to discuss possible solutions to flooding.

The meeting was set up to discuss the issue of road traffic and anticipated flood in the state.

Aminu Ambursa, head of search and rescue unit, NEMA Sokoto operations office, presented the organisation’s efforts and preparation to prevent flooding.

The agency had on Monday, carried out an assessment of rains and windstorm in Goronyo LGA of the state.

The organisation said the incident, which occurred on July 28, destroyed infrastructure, including 75 houses.
