The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) says at least 1,415 households were affected and three people killed by recent flash floods in Adamawa state.

In a statement on Thursday, the agency said the incident, which occurred on Tuesday after a downpour, submerged communities in Yola North and Yola South LGAs.

NEMA said a rapid assessment conducted by its Yola operations office in collaboration with the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA) and other stakeholders showed that 13 communities were affected by the disaster.

The agency said over 40 people sustained injuries. It added that farmlands and critical infrastructure were also submerged, displacing families and disrupting livelihoods.

“Displaced families are currently being sheltered within host communities, while some have been relocated to flood resettlement camp in Girei,” the statement reads.

“Urgent humanitarian needs identified include food, shelter, medical support, and clean water.”

NEMA urged residents in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant and adhere strictly to early warning advisories as the rainy season intensifies.

The agency said it would continue working with ADSEMA, local emergency committees, and humanitarian partners to cushion the impact of disasters and provide timely assistance to affected populations.

In July, at least 25 people were killed and more than 5,500 displaced after torrential rains triggered flooding in Yola and surrounding communities.
