The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) says metered electricity customers in Nigeria rose to 6,579,818 in August.

According to the commission’s ‘metering status of distribution companies’ factsheet’ for July and August, released on Monday, metered customers rose by 1.09 percent from 6,508,611 in the prior month.

The report indicated that the total number of active customers across all electricity distribution companies (DisCos) increased by 0.53 percent from 11,897,246 in July to 11,960,101 a month after.

In August, NERC said 70,888 customers were metered, compared to 76,783 in July, “reflecting ongoing metering efforts across the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI)”.

According to the report, the metering rate in August was 55.01 percent — up from 54.71 percent in July.

Also, the report listed the top performing DisCos to include Eko (84.25 percent), Ikeja (84.83 percent), and Abuja (73.92 percent), in August.

NERC added that the least performers were Yola DisCo (28.65 percent), Jos DisCo (29.61 percent), and Kaduna DisCo (33.60 percent).

“These figures highlight gradual progress in closing Nigeria’s metering gap and improving transparency and billing accuracy for electricity consumers,” NERC said.

In an earlier report, NERC said the total revenue “collected” by power distribution companies (DisCos) hit N1.58 trillion in the first eight months of 2025.

The commission said the figure represents a revenue increase of 50.48 percent year-on-year from the N1.05 trillion recorded in the corresponding eight-month period of 2024.
