The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) says there was no incidence of system disturbance on the national grid in the first quarter (Q1) of 2025.
“There was no incidence of system disturbance on the National Grid in 2025/Q1,” the report reads.
However, the commission said it continues to propel the system operator (SO) to improve its system coordination activities.
According to the report, this is to “avert the system risk posed by the continuous operation of the grid outside the normal operating limits”.

“In the Q1, the average lower daily (49.28Hz) and average upper daily (50.77Hz) system frequencies were outside the normal operating limits (49.75Hz – 50.25Hz) but remained within the lower and higher bound stress limits (48.75Hz – 51.25Hz),” NERC said.
“The average lower daily system voltage (296.56kV) and the average upper daily system voltage (346.82kV) were outside the lower (313.50kV) and upper (346.50kV) limits specified in the grid code.”
The commission said the SO is responsible for ensuring that various parameters are maintained within their respective “tolerance limits”.

NERC said the primary parameter that the SO tracks to avoid system disturbances is called “frequency”.
The commission’s stance comes despite a reported national grid disturbance on February 12, confirmed by electricity distribution companies.
On the same day, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) denied reports claiming that the national grid collapsed twice in 2025.
Similarly, in January, the commission denied reports of a national grid collapse.

NERC had also said DisCos collected a total revenue of N553.63 billion in Q1 2025.
