News Central, a media channel focused on telling African stories, has partnered with Agence France-Presse (AFP) to improve media coverage on the continent.
Speaking during a recent meeting with executives of both media companies in Lagos, Kayode Akintemi, managing director of News Central, said the partnership aims at leveraging AFP’s extensive international news gathering network to deliver high-quality, factual, and timely news to diverse audiences.
Akintemi expressed optimism about the prospects of strengthening news reporting, facilitating knowledge exchange, and driving innovation in multimedia content production.
He noted the importance of media partnerships in promoting transparency, adding that News Central will use its regional presence to improve reporting in Africa.

“A significant step toward building a mutually beneficial relationship with AFP. We believe that by combining our strengths, we can set new standards for journalistic excellence and expand the reach of authentic African narratives,” Akintemi said.
During the meeting, both organisations agreed to establish a working group to identify specific areas for collaboration, including content syndication, joint multimedia projects, and professional development initiatives.
Among those who attended the meeting were Pierre Ausseill, AFP’s executive director for Africa; and Joaquin Iturralde, AFP’s sales director for Africa.
