The move by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to tackle the lingering naira scarcity dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

Saturday Punch reports that 17 newly-elected governors will inherit at least N2.1trn in domestic debts and $1.9bn in external debts from their predecessors. The newspaper says the Jama’atu Izalatul Bid’ah Wa Iqamatus Sunnah in Bauchi state has appealed to the federal government to make naira notes available during Ramadan.

The Nation says the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is currently making moves to prevent the planned strike by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) over naira scarcity. The newspaper reports that the claim that President Muhammadu Buhari will not hand over to Bola Tinubu, the president-elect, is fake news.

Daily Trust reports that the CBN has asked banks to work on Saturdays and Sundays over the lingering cash scarcity. The newspaper says Olukayode Ariwoola, the chief justice of Nigeria (CJN), was spotted on Friday observing prayers at the Ansar-Ud-Deen central mosque in Abuja.

THISDAY reports that there was wild jubilation across Osun after the court of appeal nullified the judgement of the election tribunal that voided the election of Ademola Adeleke as governor of the state. The newspaper says Godwin Emefiele, the CBN governor, will lead the apex bank’s team to monitor the level of compliance by the banks on the disbursement of naira notes.

Saturday Independent says the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has commended members of the house of representatives for rejecting yet another attempt to push through a bill for cannabis cultivation, sale, and use in Nigeria.
