Newspaper Headlines: 40 missing, 10 rescued in Sokoto boat accident

The Nation reports that President Bola Tinubu has approved a N758 billion bond to clear pension arrears, granting federal retirees under Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) a N32,000 monthly increase. The paper adds that Emmanuel Nwachukwu, candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), won Saturday’s by-election in Anambra south senatorial district.
The PUNCH reports that the federal high court in Abuja has ordered the national assembly to release documents relating to the N37 billion renovation of the national assembly complex. The paper also reports that two Nigerians have reportedly died in Tripoli, Libya’s capital, under circumstances suspected to be linked to poisoning.
Vanguard newspaper reports that the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) says 40 persons are missing while 10 have been rescued after a boat accident in Sokoto. The paper adds that the federal government has unveiled education reforms, introducing a unified university fee structure and directing the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) to fully cover student fees.

The paper adds that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) says Saturday’s by-elections show that democracy has “declined” under Tinubu.
