Reports on petrol subsidy removal and the planned nationwide strike by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), dominate the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers today.

The Punch reports that the NLC on Sunday shunned a meeting called by the federal government to discuss the subsidy removal and the attendant hike in petrol prices across the country. The newspaper says the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on President Bola Tinubu to make his asset declaration public.

Vanguard reports that Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos, has appealed to NLC to shelve its planned nationwide strike over the removal of petrol subsidy. The newspaper says the senate has indicted the office of the accountant-general of the federation over failure to repay short-term loans given to ministries, departments, and agencies from special funds accounts totalling N910 billion.

The Guardian reports that a showdown is brewing between the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and marketers over undelivered 202.5 million litres of product in the last eight months. The newspaper says terrorists have attacked residents of Maradun LGA, Zamfara state and abducted at least 30 girls.

Daily Trust reports that bandits at the weekend unleashed terror on communities in Sokoto and Zamfara states and killed 62 persons.

Daily Independent reports that analysts have argued that unification of the exchange rates in Nigeria may crash the country’s economy. The newspaper says the NLC has insisted that nothing will stop its planned nationwide strike over the removal of petrol subsidy.
