Newspaper Headlines: 82 million Nigerians may go hungry by 2030, UN warns

The national dailies continue to report the measures put in place by state governments to salvage lives and properties in the face of ravaging flood.

Punch reports that the United Nations (UN) has predicted that 82 million Nigerians may go hungry by 2030. The newspaper says some state governments, including Lagos, Edo and Akwa Ibom, are planning to set up camps for residents displaced by floods. 
Daily Trust analyses why agitations for secession continue 54 years after the civil war. The newspaper investigates the Sani Abacha stadium in Kano which has turned into a haven for forbidden drugs.
Guardian reports that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called for immediate reversal of new tariff by the electricity distribution companies (DisCos). The newspaper says Vice-President Kashim Shettima called for a shift from dependence on oil to other critical sectors.
The Nation reports that eight UK politicians of Nigerian origin were elected into the house of commons after the country’s general election on July 4. The newspaper says Siminalayi Fubara, governor of Rivers, said there is no cause for worry after the appeal court recognised Martins Amaewhule and 24 other lawmakers as speaker and members of the state house of assembly.
