Newspaper Headlines: After court order, INEC says SDP will participate in by-elections

The preparations of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security personnel for today’s by-elections take centre stage on the front pages of national newspapers.

THISDAY reports that Aminu Tambuwal, serving senator and former governor of Sokoto, says the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) cannot tarnish his record of public service. The newspaper says the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) has increased the capital requirement for insurance businesses in Nigeria.
The PUNCH reports that the federal government has rejected the designation of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) as “terrorist organisations” by a Canadian immigration appeal tribunal. The newspaper says the Christ Apostolic Church has accepted an apology from Biodun Fatoyinbo, global senior pastor of COZA, over his controversial remarks on its late founder Apostle Joseph Babalola.

Vanguard newspaper reports that INEC has formally withdrawn recognition of Julius Abure as the national chairman of the Labour Party (LP). The newspaper adds that Nenadi Usman, factional interim chairman of the LP, welcomed the electoral umpire’s decision on the leadership crisis.
