The suspension of Godwin Emefiele, governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Nation says the suspension of Emefiele by President Bola Tinubu may have been triggered by the probe instituted against him last week by the house of representatives. The newspaper reports that Tinubu said Nigeria could no longer act as Father Christmas to neighbouring countries on the payment of petrol subsidy.

Daily Trust says the Zamfara government has confirmed the operation of the Nigeria Police Force that led to the recovery of 40 vehicles from Bello Matawalle, former governor of the state. The newspaper reports that Abdullahi Ganduje, former governor of Kano, said he could have slapped his predecessor, Musa Kwankwaso, if he met him at the presidential villa in Abuja.

The Guardian reports that there is tension in the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the senate’s standing rule that stipulates secret voting for the election of the senate president. The newspaper says Tinubu has signed the electricity bill which allows states and individuals to generate power.

The Punch reports that experts have commended Tinubu over the suspension of Emefiele. The newspaper says aggrieved lawmakers-elect are planning to adopt a candidate for the speakership position to frustrate the zoning arrangement of the APC.

Daily Independent reports that Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, has asked Tinubu to make use of traditional rulers to tackle the issue of insecurity in the country. The newspaper says Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo, said he will continue to visit Aso Rock.
