Newspaper Headlines: Air strikes destroy over 30 illegal oil refinery sites in Rivers

Reports on President Bola Tinubu’s nomination of Jamila Ibrahim as the minister of youth affairs, and Ayodele Olawande as minister of state for the ministry, dominate the cover pages of the newspapers.

The Punch reports that oil marketers are gearing up for a fresh fuel price hike as crude oil price hits $94/barrel. The newspaper says at least two people have been hospitalised after a 500-room building collapsed in Lagos.
The Nation reports that Dave Umahi, minister of works, said the Tinubu administration has a N6 trillion funding gap on 2,604 road projects across the country. The newspaper says five died and 12 were injured in multiple auto crashes along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
Daily Trust reports that flood has destroyed over 100 houses in Plateau communities following a downpour on Saturday through Sunday. The newspaper says Nigeria and Cuba have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on food security and agricultural advancement.

 

The Guardian reports that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is set to recover loans it granted some Nigerians to ameliorate harsh socio-economic realities, with some beneficiaries unhappy over the manner of recovery. The newspaper says the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has sued Tinubu over failure to stop former governors, currently serving as ministers, from collecting life pensions and other retirement benefits from their respective states.
