Newspaper Headlines: Alau dam reconstruction yet to begin 8 months after tragic Borno flood

Reports on the defection of Umo Eno, governor of Akwa Ibom, to the All Progressives Congress (APC) dominate the frontpages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that following the formal defection of Eno from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC, there are indications that more governors may soon follow suit. The newspaper says hundreds of families in Mokwa, Niger state, celebrated this year’s Eid-el-Kabir festival in sadness owing to the flood that killed over 150 residents and displaced many.
Daily Trust reports that the omission of the name of Kashim Shettima by groups and stakeholders endorsing President Bola Tinubu for a second term in office has raised questions about the political fate of the vice-president. The newspaper says repair work is yet to start on the Alau dam eight months after it collapsed and caused loss of lives and property in Borno state.
Nigerian Tribune reports that Tinubu and governors have reacted to the death of Mohammed Uwais, a former chief justice of Nigeria (CJN), who died on Friday at the age of 88.
