Newspaper Headlines: APC caretaker committee’s tenure may be extended

The disagreement between state governors and Abubakar Malami, attorney-general of the federation, over $418 million fees for consultants on the Paris Club refund appeared on the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Nation reports that governors tackled Malami, saying his role in the Paris Club refund is suspect. The newspaper says Abdulrasheed Maina, former chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), has been jailed for eight years over N2 billion pension theft.

Daily Independent reports that the federal government is considering probing the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan over the P&ID contract. The newspaper says there is a plot to extend the tenure of the caretaker committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Punch reports that Torsabo Solomon, a sergeant, has been arrested in connection with the attack on the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in Kaduna. The newspaper says uncertainty surrounds the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party as Uche Secondus heads for the supreme court.

The Guardian says Boko Haram insurgents have attacked a military base at Tamsukawu in Kaga LGA of Borno state. The newspaper reports that the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has imposed fresh sanctions on Mali over a military coup.
