Newspaper Headlines: APC plots major NWC shake-up ahead of December convention

Reports on the deaths of former President Muhammadu Buhari and Sikiru Kayode Adetona, the Awujale of Ijebuland, dominate today’s frontpages.

The Punch reports that President Bola Tinubu and former Nigerian leaders will gather in Daura today as ex-president Muhammadu Buhari is buried according to Islamic rites. The newspaper says the All Progressives Congress (APC) plans a major shake-up as the national executive council (NEC) meets July 24 to form committees for December convention and replace entire national working committee (NWC).
The Nation reports that Former President Muhammadu Buhari has died in a clinic in London, United Kingdom, at the age of 82. The newspaper also reports that Sikiru Kayode Adetona, the Awujale of Ijebuland, has died at the age of 91.
Daily Trust reports that northern states, at a weekend constitution review hearing, pushed for new states, LGAs, state police, and defined roles for traditional rulers. The newspaper also reports that Tinubu mourned the passing of Buhari, his predecessor.
