Newspaper Headlines: Atiku’s PDP bloc defies governors, insists on coalition

Reports on the killings in Plateau state, and the statement from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors on coalition talks, dominate the frontpages. 

The Punch reports that the PDP bloc loyal to former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has insisted that coalition is the only way to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027. The newspaper says the federal government has promised to address the N4 trillion electricity debt owed to power generation companies (GenCos).
Daily Trust reports that the killings in Plateau state have continued with at least 49 people killed on Sunday in Zike-Kimakpa community of Bassa LGA. The newspaper says gunmen reportedly stormed a prayer session at a mountain site in the Egbola area, along Agbaja road in Lokoja LGA in Kogi state, and abducted an unspecified number of worshippers.
Vanguard reports that a wave of protests on Monday rocked Port Harcourt in Rivers state as a group of women staged a solidarity rally in support of the declaration of emergency rule in the state, while another group of women called for the reinstatement of Siminalayi Fubara, governor of the state. The newspaper says the federal government has set a 14-month deadline to complete the reconstruction of section II of the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria road.
The Nation reports that the Rivers state government, under the leadership of the sole administrator, has clashed with the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) over the N300 million allegedly collected from the state government for the annual general conference. The newspaper says the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Lamidi Apapa are tussling over the leadership of the Labour Party (LP).
