Newspaper Headlines: Bandits issue 7-day ultimatum on abducted Zamfara varsity students

Threat of attacks issued to Pushit community in Plateau state, made it to the cover pages of the dailies.

The Punch reports that invaders have threatened fresh attacks on Pushit community in Mangu LGA of Plateau state on Friday, barely four days after they killed 195 persons in 17 communities across the state. The newspaper says Taiwo Oyedele, chairman of the presidential committee on fiscal policy and tax reforms, said Nigeria can easily earn N10 trillion annually through efficient management of non-oil assets.

Daily Trust reports that bandits have issued a seven-day ultimatum to families of 19 abducted victims for a N10 million ransom and three bags of rice or risk losing the lives of their loved ones. The newspaper says five appointees of late Rotimi Akeredolu, former governor of Ondo, have resigned.

The Guardian reports that the US mission in Nigeria and France’s ministry of foreign affairs have called for the perpetrators of the killings in some communities in Plateau state to be apprehended. The newspaper says a federal high court in Abuja has extended the interim order restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from conducting fresh election to fill “vacant” seats in the Rivers state house of assembly.

Daily Independent reports that the United Nations (UN) has condemned the deadly attacks in some communities in Plateau state over the past few days. The newspaper reports that the federal government has announced the closure of the Iyana Oworonshoki-Adeniji Adele section of the Third Mainland Bridge for rehabilitation works.
