Newspaper Headlines: Bandits kill 6 soldiers, abduct captain in Niger

Reports on the controversy trailing Saturday’s governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo dominated the front pages of Nigerian newspapers.

 The Punch reports that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has listed seven expectations from the federal government ahead of Workers’ Day. The newspaper says the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria Export Promotion Group (MANEG) has faulted the directive of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) asking deposit money banks to stop the use of foreign currencies as collateral for naira loans.

Daily Trust reports that bandits ambushed and gunned down six soldiers at Roro, Karaga and Rumace communities in Shiroro LGA of Niger state. The newspaper says seven almajiri children were killed on Saturday at Badariya in Birnin Kebbi LGA of Kebbi after a pit collapsed on them.

The Guardian reports that Lucky Aiyedatiwa, governor of Ondo, is on the verge of clinching the APC governorship ticket in his state. The newspaper says Sheriff Oborevwori, governor of Delta, has asked residents of Okuama community in the state to return to their homes.

THISDAY reports that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has secured the cooperation of some International Money Transfer Operators (IMTOs) to double the flow of remittance to Nigeria. The newspaper says alleged irregularities and protests have trailed the conduct of Saturday’s governorship primary of the APC in Ondo.
