Newspaper Headlines: Buni’s loyalists return to office as APC begins convention planning

The rise in inflation rate amid the soaring prices of diesel, petrol and aviation fuel dominated the cover pages of the Nigerian newspapers.

The Nation says there is confusion in the Peoples Democratic Party over a plot to exclude politicians who returned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the party from seeking the 2023 presidential ticket. The newspaper says Nigeria has failed to meet its quota allocated by the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) for two consecutive months.

The Punch reports that loyalists of Mai Mala Buni, governor of Yobe, have tightened their grip on the leadership of the APC. The newspaper says inflation in the country rose to 15.70 percent in February amid soaring fuel prices and scarcity.

The Guardian says the soaring fuel prices and scarcity has triggered inflation in the country. The newspaper reports that gunmen killed four police officers and seven others in Gafara village, Kebbi state.

Daily Trust says aviation fuel is now selling at N670 per litre as marketers and operators failed to agree on a reduced price. The newspaper reports that blackout across the country has worsened as the national power grid collapsed again — second time in two days.

The Nigerian Tribune reports that the house of representatives has commenced investigation into over $6.479 billion debts owed by oil and gas companies operating in the country. Atiku Abubakar, former vice-president, said the PDP may collapse if it loses the 2023 presidential election, the newspaper says.
