Newspaper Headlines: CBN governor targets $1trn GDP growth in 8 years

Reports on the appeal against the judgment of the presidential election tribunal and the appointment of a new chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), permeate the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) said it is raising dollar supply in the foreign exchange market. The newspaper says Ekperikpe Ekpo, the minister of state for petroleum resources, has charged contractors handling the 614-kilometer Ajaokuta, Kaduna, Kano gas pipelines project not to default on the July/August 2024 completion deadline.

The Nation reports that President Bola Tinubu has urged the supreme court to dismiss the appeal filed by Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), challenging his victory in the February 25 poll. The newspaper says Tinubu has approved the appointment of Olukoyede as the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The Guardian reports that poor funding and low patronage of Nigerian sporting activities have robbed the country of N500 billion revenue yearly. The newspaper says controversy has trailed the appointment of Olukoyode as EFCC boss.

Daily Independent reports that Yemi Cardoso, the governor, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), said that the apex bank is targeting a gross domestic product (GDP) of $1 trillion in eight years.

Daily Trust reports that experts have faulted the appointment of Olukoyode as EFCC boss, saying the president breached provisions of EFCC Act 2004. The newspaper says the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has commenced the tracking of N500 billion constituency projects.
