Newspaper Headlines: CBN to flood banks with old naira to avert NLC strike

Reports that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has concluded plans to release mopped-up naira notes dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that the CBN has finally concluded plans to release all N1,000, N500 and N200 notes in its custody to commercial banks on Thursday. The newspaper says election petition tribunals in 12 states have received no fewer than 146 petitions from national assembly candidates who are aggrieved by the conduct of the elections.

Daily Trust reports that President Muhammadu Buhari has warned against the hike in the price of commodities during the season of Ramadan. The newspaper says the Labour Party (LP) won the governorship election in Abia state while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) retained Enugu state.

The Nation says the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has directed public sector workers in the country to embark on strike, which is expected to commence Wednesday next week. The newspaper says seven senators-elect have thrown their hats into the ring for the 10th senate president.

The Guardian reports that Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the PDP, has asked the tribunal to declare him the winner of the presidential election or order a rerun election. The newspaper says Rhodes-Vivour, LP governorship candidate in Lagos, says there can be no healing until justice is served to victims of electoral violence in the country.

THISDAY reports that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa state has suspended Boss Mustapha, the secretary to the government of the federation, for losing his polling units to the PDP in the presidential and governorship elections.
