The release of the list of candidates for the 2023 elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) dominated the headlines of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch says INEC has cleared 18 presidential candidates to contest for the number one seat in the country while 4,233 candidates are set to contest the seats in the national assembly. The newspaper reports that President Muhammadu Buhari is seeking the approval of the senate for N402 billion promissory notes.

Daily Trust says the All Progressives Congress (APC) is facing a cash crunch despite generating billions in sale of nomination forms. The newspaper reports that the senate has warned that crude oil theft may crash the Nigerian economy.
