Newspaper Headlines: EFCC recovers billions in refinery fraud as ex-NNPCL officials face prosecution

The Punch reports that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has recovered over N5 billon and $10m from contractors and officials indicted in “fraudulent” refinery maintenance schemes. The newspaper adds that the Ondo police command has arrested 29-year-old Bello Azeez for allegedly staging his own abduction to extort money from relatives and acquaintances.
The Nation reports that President Bola Tinubu has approved N16.7 billion for the immediate reconstruction of the collapsed Mokwa Bridge in Niger state. The newspaper adds that a 50-year-old man, Modu Isa, on Friday, attempted suicide in Bama, Borno, after his ex-wife rejected reconciliation efforts.
Nigerian Tribune reports that the Ogun police command says two officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and others have been arrested for alleged electoral offences in Iperu Remo. The newspaper says that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has asked INEC to cancel the by-election for the Shanono/Bagwai state constituency and the rerun for the Ghari constituency in Kano.

Daily Times reports that a federal high court in Ikoyi, Lagos, has convicted four men for cybercrime after EFCC arrested them among 93 suspects at Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, Ogun state. The paper says despite high expectations, talks between US President Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, the Russian leader, ended without an agreement on Ukraine, dampening hopes for a breakthrough in the protracted war.
