Newspaper Headlines: Electronic collation of election results illegal, says INEC

Reports on the N2.17 trillion supplementary budget, electricity tariff, and off-cycle governorship elections, suffuse the front pages. 

The Punch reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has insisted that electronic collation of results is illegal in Nigeria. The newspaper says Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the last poll, has faulted the N2.17 trillion supplementary budget.

The Nation says the senate and the house of representatives have raised the student loan appropriation to N10 billion. The newspaper reports that Adebayo Adelabu, the minister of power, has threatened to revoke the licences of distribution companies (DisCos) and generation companies (GenCos) if they fail to perform.

The Guardian reports that inflation, naira depreciation, and anti-trade policies have compounded Nigeria’s trade woes. The newspaper says aviation unions have directed their workers to withdraw services to all flights heading to Owerri, the Imo state capital.

Daily Independent reports that no foreign airline has received any payment of trapped funds despite claims by the federal government that it has commenced. The newspaper says the court has granted bail to Godwin Emefiele, former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
