Newspaper Headlines: Experts fault Buhari’s borrowing plan in 2023 budget

The presentation of the 2023 budget proposal to the national assembly by President Muhammadu Buhari dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Nation reports that Buhari prioritised roads, railways and universities in the 2023 budget proposal to the national assembly. The newspaper says the All Progressives Congress (APC) has asked the court of appeal to nullify the judgement voiding the candidacy of Gboyega Oyetola, governor of Osun.

Saturday Punch says experts have faulted Buhari’s borrowing plan and petrol subsidy payment in the 2023 budget proposal. The newspaper reports that Iyorchia Ayu, national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) unanimously agreed on the allowance paid to members of the national working committee (NWC).

THISDAY reports that Buhari has said payment of petrol subsidy ends in 2023 and that the scheme is unsustainable. The newspaper says the court of appeal has ordered the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to return to the classrooms.
