Newspaper Headlines: FG probes employment of foreign prisoners as expatriates in Nigeria

Reports on the political crisis in Rivers state, and the medical leave of Rotimi Akeredolu, governor of Ondo, suffuse the front pages today. 

The Punch reports that Lucky Aiyedatiwa, deputy governor of Ondo, is set to take over from Rotimi Akeredolu, governor of the state, who is returning to Germany for medical treatment. The newspaper says President Bola Tinubu appealed to Nigerian health workers practising abroad to sacrifice their time to come back home and serve their people.

The Nation says the federal government has decided to sell off its 40 percent shares in distribution companies (DisCos). The newspaper says the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has criticised the proposal of Adebayo Adelabu, the minister of power, that the N17 trillion pension funds should be invested in the power sector.

Daily Trust reports that the condition of dozens of abducted students of Federal University, Gusau, Zamfara state is unknown following the killing of Ali Kachalla, bandits’ leader, in an air strike. The newspaper says gunmen killed four soldiers and two drivers along the Ahoada/Abua end of the East-West road in Rivers state.

THISDAY reports that the federal government has begun another round of consultation with the power sector industry players over the need to dump dollar-denominated transactions to surmount the gas supply problem. The Rivers state high court sitting in Port Harcourt has confirmed Edison Ehie, an ally of Siminalayi Fubara, governor of Rivers, as authentic speaker of the state house of assembly, the newspaper says.
