Newspaper Headlines: Flood kills 24, destroys properties worth N22bn in Bauchi

Reports on the release of Joe Ajaero, president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), by the Department of State Services (DSS) permeate the frontpages.

The Punch reports that the Department of State Services (DSS) has granted administrative bail to the NLC president. The newspaper says oil marketers are concerned about the delay in announcing the price of petrol being produced by the Dangote Refinery, with the landing cost of imported PMS now about N1,120/litre.
Daily Trust reports that many students in different parts of the country have resorted to trekking to school due to the increase in transport fares occasioned by the recent hike in petrol price. The newspaper reports that flood has wreaked havoc in Bauchi, with 24 confirmed dead and property worth billions of naira destroyed.
THISDAY reports that Alex Otti, governor of Abia, and Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 election, have written to Mahmood Yakubu, national chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to notify the commission of the setting up of a 29-member caretaker committee to organise the party‘s congresses and national convention. The newspaper says the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has set up an alternative dispute resolution mechanism to handle cases of disagreements involving upstream operators.
The Guardian reports that the LP faction led by Julius Abure said its 2027 presidential ticket is no longer reserved for Obi, presidential candidate of the party in the 2023 election. The newspaper says Lateef Fagbemi, attorney-general of the federation (AGF) and minister of justice, said those who have been prosecuted and convicted of corruption should not enjoy state pardon.
Nigerian Tribune reports that gunmen invaded the Primary Healthcare Centre at Kuyallo, Birnin-Gwari LGA of Kaduna state, and kidnapped two nurses and an unspecified number of patients. The newspaper reports Wale Edun, minister of finance, as saying that value-added tax remains at 7.5 percent.
