Newspaper Headlines: Fubara, loyalists shun Rivers LG poll as governor eyes comeback

Reports on the conduct of the local government elections in Rivers state take centre stage on the front pages of national newspapers.

Sunday PUNCH reports that Siminalayi Fubara, the suspended governor of Rivers, and his supporters were absent during Saturday’s local government elections in the state. The newspaper also reports that the federal government has ordered ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) to exclude consultants, corps members and non-permanent workers from the 2026 personnel payroll.
The Nation reports that Tanimu Yakubu, director-general of the budget office, says President Bola Tinubu’s forex reforms have repositioned and strengthened the naira.
