Newspaper Headlines: Gunmen kill 12 in fresh Kwara attack

The lingering dispute between Dangote refinery and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) perfuses the cover pages of the dailies.

The Punch reports that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has issued an ultimatum to Atiku Abubakar, former vice-president, Babachir Lawal, ex-secretary to the government of the federation (SGF); and other party figures to register at their wards before year’s end or lose recognition. The paper adds that the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has rescued a 24-year-old Ghanaian from a human trafficking syndicate and arrested five suspects — both Ghanaian and Nigerian nationals — in Ofada, Ogun state.

The Guardian reports that the ADC has criticised the President Bola Tinubu administration for seeking a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) with insecurity ravaging the country. Vanguard newspaper reports that the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has unveiled a one-stop-shop initiative aimed at reducing cargo clearance times from an average of 21 days to 48 hours.
THISDAY reports that the federal government has responded to claims that terrorists in Nigeria are waging a systematic genocide against Christians, describing the allegations as “baseless and divisive”. PENGASSAN has instructed its members to embark on a nationwide strike immediately following Dangote refinery’s dismissal of “over 800 workers”.
