The long-awaited south-west zonal congress of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) dominated the headlines of Nigerian newspapers. The burial of 12 soldiers killed by bandits in Benue also made the headlines.

Ayodele Fayose, former governor of Ekiti state, and Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo state, agreed to accept the outcome of the zonal congress election, the newspaper says.

The Guardian reports that a new strain of COVID-19 discovered in Nigeria has hit Kent, a country in south-east England. The newspaper says the management of Dangote cement denied the claim that the price of its cement is significantly higher in Nigeria than in other African countries.
